Three depths of engagement: diagnosis and advice, a scoped project, selective long-term accompaniment. These are different relationships, not packages sorted by duration. Where you start depends on how well the problem is already defined.

Diagnosis and advice

Used to establish whether the problem is real, whether it is one I should handle, and what is most worth doing next. It is the lowest-friction entry point, and the only one that can start from nothing.

  • A definition of the problem and the assumptions it rests on
  • What is currently fact, and where the evidence is missing
  • Priorities, risks, and what I would advise against
  • Whether this warrants a scoped project at all

Project engagement

Scoped work on a defined question, with agreed roles, process, deliverables and end conditions. It can cover positioning, market entry, operating diagnosis, organisation and talent, or applied AI.

  • The problem being solved
  • The facts and resources the client supplies
  • What each side is responsible for
  • Deliverables, how we communicate, and what acceptance means
  • What this project will not address

Selective long-term accompaniment

Built on trust formed in prior project work, on the client's willingness to act, and on fit in both directions. Not a default entry point for a new client, and I reserve the right to choose.

  • Period objectives and stage reviews
  • An explicit exit condition
  • It does not become open-ended availability
  • It does not take over the client's operating responsibility

Agreed before a project starts

Five things are agreed before a project starts: the problem being solved, the facts and resources the client supplies, what each side is responsible for, deliverables and acceptance, and what this project will not address.[public]

A project may cover positioning, market entry, operating diagnosis, organisation and talent, or applied AI. What it may not do is use the word comprehensive to cover an undefined scope.[public]

What I do not take on

  • Legal, tax, audit, certification and investment opinions
  • Making day-to-day operating decisions in place of management
  • Producing a complete conclusion when the necessary facts are withheld
  • Guarantees on revenue, funding, traffic or market success

Legal, tax, audit, certification and investment opinions require the relevant qualified party and are outside what I take responsibility for.[public]

Strategy, operations, talent and management work outside the overseas context can also be taken on, subject to the same fit and boundary judgement.[public]

Fees and deliverables

Fees, timelines and deliverable lists are not settled, so they are not published.[public]

What is described here is the boundary of a working relationship, not a quotation, a contract or a service specification.[public]
