Terms

This page maintains only the terms that carry weight in this practice, and states what each means here. The gap between two readings of the same word is usually where a judgement goes wrong.

Going overseas

The process by which a Chinese company extends its products, services, capability or organisation into overseas markets. It covers market selection, entry route, compliance, supply chain, organisation, finance and tax, and execution conditions. It is not a synonym for overseas advertising, building a website or joining a marketplace.

Overseas growth

Winning and then sustainably expanding customers, revenue, partnerships, capability or strategic position in overseas markets. Going overseas is about entry and extension; overseas growth is about the value and durability that follow entry. Related, not interchangeable.

Diagnosis

Clarifying the problem, the facts, the assumptions, the constraints, the risks and the priorities, within a bounded scope. A diagnosis is not a complete plan, and it does not automatically include implementation.

Project engagement

Advisory work organised around a defined question, scope, set of roles, deliverables and end condition. Work described as comprehensive but left undefined does not qualify.

Long-term accompaniment

An ongoing advisory relationship built on trust, fit and period objectives. It is not the default entry point for a new client, and it is not open-ended availability.

Method

A reusable problem structure, sequence of judgements or advisory mechanism. A method must state its source, its applicable conditions and its limits. A single case does not become a general law by being restated as one.

Case

The facts, problem, process, delivery and outcome of one client engagement. A case can support a method. Its specifics do not generalise into conclusions that hold for every company.

Capability evidence

Projects, experience, code, acceptance records or published work that evidence a particular capability in judgement, delivery or system building. Capability evidence is not the same as a client outcome.

ARK

A decision-support system for overseas market entry, serving as evidence of method and system capability. ARK does not stand in for the advisor, and until its operating range and responsibility boundary have been signed off it is not described as a stable external service.

AI-enhanced consulting

Using AI to improve research, structuring, decision support, knowledge processing and light implementation, while the advisor retains responsibility for framing the problem, judging the evidence and standing behind the conclusion.

XXF Global

The personal advisory practice of Xia Xianfeng, and this site. It is not an existing legal entity, and it is not an umbrella brand over every project.

Not interchangeable

Each of these is a misreading that has actually occurred. It is recorded so it does not recur.
